I have just bought an 07 Toledo Sport. Great machine, great price.
However it appears that the VAG group think that we only need one combined key/remote control. They will however sell us another one for approx £120.

I see on ebay that it is possible to buy this item for around £20 to £30, and the Toledo manual has instructions on how to program the remote.

Now for the questions.
How can I be sure that I would be buying the right blank key/remote (model/code/frequency/etc???).?

Does anyone know if the High street key cutter would be able to cut this key, or would it require a specialist locksmith to do this.??

a general locksmith would be able to cut the actual key part, and as for the remote, inside where the battery is will be a frequency code, as long as the new one is the same as your current one you should be fine

Dave, thanks for that information, and your prompt reply.

Silly question, which may save me lots of money.... How do I open the remote without damaging it...

Dave,

yes it is,

however I have managed to get it open , by being very careful.

The bottom(with the foldout key) slides away from the top(with ALL the buttons)
then the top splits into two to reveal the battery and circuit board.
Haven't yet found any indication of frequency code.

Just in case anyone else reads this post!!!!

Local locksmith cur the physical key... no problem

Manual showed me how to synchronise key to car... This opens and locks door.

When used to start engine... "SAFE" shows and vehicle is immobilised

Dealer is now going to match KEY TO CAR via diagnostics connection..

Will update when done....

Yep, you need Vag-Com to get it working unfortunately

UPDATE.

Took Car & Keys to SEAT main dealer, and asked if they would match new key to car (via vag.com)

However when they tried, it would not match. even after many attempts (with the required 5 minute waite between).

I am now being to wonder if the guy selling these on ebay, is somehow managing to buy "rejects". I am politely going to ask him.

Have decided that I will let Main dealer supply a new one and then it will be covered in case of any further problems.

Hi I have an 07 toledo on contract hire for 2 years and this was delivered
with two keys so i would get on to Seat customer service. If your car was bought new then i would have thought it would come with two keys.

Thanks for your comments.
I have checked with another dealer (not my supplying dealer) and I did get the correct keys.

Which are.:
One key which includes a 3 key remote
One key with NO buttons, but has a built in transponder (opens door and has to be inserted into ignition and car started within 20 seconds, to prevent alarm activating)
One plastic tab which has a 7 digit code (required to program any other replacement or additional keys)
