Hi everyone, this is my first post here so if I have posted in the wrong place etc then please go easy ;)
Ok , my problem,, I would like to firstly call myself stupid for puting my 2010 Seat Leon caar key and fob through my washing machine. Needless to say, they are now buggered. The key still works but the buttons which control the alarm and central locking do not.
I ordered (supposedly) a brand new uncut and unprogramed key fob and chip etc from ebay. Can I program this key myself or do I have to go down to the dealership? I know I can perform a task to make it work with the car, ir open doors, but will this also allow me to use all the other features I could with the old key?
Any advise or help would be much appreciated as I don't want to the dealer a ridiculas amount of money if it isnt nessesary.
Thanks in advance everyone !!! :)

In order to program the key yourself you need firstly some software (such as VCDS/Vag-Com) and secondly the SKC (Secret Key Code). VAG no longer give these out (you used to get them with the car pre 2005). Now not even the delaer can 'see' them, the software connects to Seat's/VWs computers to get the code for your car.

There is software out there which can apparently read these from your ECU, VAG Tacho is one, VAG Commander is another. These cost a fortune though so unless you know an auto locksmith who has either of these or something similar that's out.

Rather than a main dealer find a local VAG Specialist who has the appropriate kit. Independants are allowed to buy the kit from VAG and have a connection to their servers. Phone a few and ask if they can program keys. You will probably have to take your log book with you.

Lol so annoying, thanks for the answer. Do you know how much this would cost , either at a dealer or an indipendent, Im just looking for an approx price so I don't get ripped off

Should only take about 30 mins max so roughly £25 at an Indi or £45 at a main dealer. Although I don't think main dealers charge for part hours so might be a flat £90.

thanks for the advise! One more question though, i have tried to google an indi place on google but with little success. Do most garages do it or are they few and far between? I live in Aberdeen and if you could point me in any right direction then that would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance again.
