I'm doing some shelving for someone along a corner section of wall in a hallway which is 900x600x2200
In addition there is enough wall to run shelving overhead above the doorways which are on the same wall.
They need to be adjustable, but I can't think of anything that looks nicer than this gastly stuff:

I put my foot in it a little bit by saying I hate the stuff, but ultimately there is nothing else.
Any thoughts on this ?
In addition, I was thinking about using these for the shelf that runs above the door all the way along the wall: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Pair-x-Adjustable-Glass-Shelf-Support-Brackets-3-Colours-4-Sizes/172567091133?var=471409186758&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=47510&meid=4968e6c4ccfe40ce8529e9a6c44b6f88&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=172567091133&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
so a cantilever design.
But how do I work out the maximum width of shelf these brackets can safely take? Keeping in mind they will have books stored on them.
Also, is pine a more sensible choice over melamine shelving for heavier loads?
