Advice for changing blanking cover to double socket

Hi There,

I have an old double socket located in the kitchen which currently has a blanking cover on it, and I would like to make it useable to have a double socket if possible, please see attached photo, I would appreciate any advice, Thanks.

What test gear have you got?

We may be looking at a ring final, but the mixture of old and new colours seem to point to it being a spur or a radial.

So step one is to find out what we are looking at. So if I was doing the job, I would select NCV on my meter, clip it to the wires, and get my wife to listen to meter and tell me when it stops bleeping as I turn off each RCBO at the consumer unit.

I would then look at the size of the RCBO turned off, if 25 amp or less, then it seems likely it is a radial, if 32 amp then likely a ring final.

Depending on the outcome, I would then look at the next step.

There are other methods to do the same thing, but until we know what you have to test with, all seems a bit pointless.

Thanks for your reply, im thinking there could be a reason why it was capped off, i will get a sparky to look at it to see if it can be reinstated, i am confident in rewiring like for like socket or light fitting as i have done previously, but looking at this wiring im not sure how i would do it and if it would be safe to do so.

That looks like a larger cable, is it for a cooker?
