I have been asked by elderly female nieghbour to advise on new central heating boiler. We have a short list of two :the Baxi platinium 23 HE or the Vaillant Eco Tec 831. She lives by herself in a two bedroom bungalow. I'm after adivise on which is most reliable. : : :?: :?: :?:

The Vailliant in my opinion but its like asking whether to buy a Ford or Vauxhall.........everyone will have their own opinions.

I think you meant a 24HE, as to my knowledge there is no 23HE model.

Can't speak for the Vaillant, but the Baxi Platinum range has a 5 year parts and labour warranty.

Yes, normally down to poor installation I would expect.

Dont blame me! I wouldnt have installed one!

I dont think you can blame PCB's and leaking isolation valves on poor installtion though..........both of which ive come across.

The five year g`tee is built into the price so not actually free.

If there under warranty and you didn't install, how you coming across them?

Surely, Baxi wouldn't put 5 years warranty, on a problem boiler.

and what other manufacturer offers a warranty until 2012?

Never said it was free, but how do you put a price on 5 years peace of mind,

a breakdown cover policy is going to be around £100/year.

Time will tell.

Because Heatteam were going to take 4 days to get out to it and the customer wanted heat.

and Kia Cars till 2014

I went to a Vaillant 824 yesterday with a failed PCB.

When its working I will see of the diverter has failed too.

Every boiler fails sometimes. Whatever the make !!!

The best way to minimise failures is a conscious CORGI installer.

Baxpoti. when you say surely they would not gIve a five year g`tee on a problem boiler... Ideal optimisticly gave the icos and isar a 1 year g`tee..  .

As the world is due to end in 2012 will Baxi only be offering a 4 year g`tee next year

How about a reliable corgi?!

Three have seen me and not one has quoted. Unbelievable!

why waste their time seeing me?

2 were complete bodgers yet qualified and 1 was really good. Obviously he is more busy than the other two so that leaves me in catch 22.

I can now understand why boilers are diy'ed, no one willing to install. Guess i'll have to wait until summer when corgi's have no work.

Oh well, there's my rant for friday anyway ;)
