Advice on DIY staircase

Hi Guys,

Moved into our first home and taking on the challenge of building a new stair case as the old one was a little 'old fashioned' shall we say - you can see what I mean from the pics.

We have removed the old style staircase wood and left the foundations. Now we are stuck at what to do next.

Any advice on how to go about fitting a stair case with this foundation in place.

The long brown piece on the stair case has still to come off so think if that wasn't there.
