Hi All,
Bought our house around 6 years ago and looks like the previous owners have probably done a cheap job getting the garden to "look nice" - and we are now left with a fake lawn that looks terrible and is constantly covered in weeds.
i think there were possible drainage/ sunlight issues previously as a neighbour had an absolutely massive tree which blocked all the sunlight meaning the garden was very difficult to dry in wet weather and apparently became a bit boggy, which is why they put the fake grass down, but the tree is gone now and we get lots of sunlight.
I want to get rid of the fake grass and and get some real grass down ideally
i've attached some pictures of what it looks like underneath in one corner, there's no weed membranes or anything and it looks like the grass is laid on a mix of sand and soil.
i was thinking of doing this myself rather than spending a fortune on a landscaper if possible. if I rip the fake grass up , is it likely that laying turf back onto this surface would grow/take? or would i be better off digging the top off and laying/flattening some top soil before putting turf down?
I have thought about using grass seed, but both neighbours have multiple cats and it's bad enough having my plants/pots covered in cat poo without them starting on my "lawn"
