....this is what I would like to do in my kitchen. I can get hold of some nice floorboards and would like to lay them on top of the original 'chipboard on joist' flooring before the new kitchen is installed - should I nail them down or screw them down and any membrane needed?
Any tips very welcome.....

How wide is the kitchen? If not wider than 5 - 6 meters install the floor 'floating' on 2 - 3mm sound insulation. Glue the T&G's and presto, job done

The kitchen is a small one - 12'x11' approx. Thanks for the advice, I just know I don't want to use glue on the underside of the T+G boards and am wondering if the boards will bend if they are glued at the grooves and floated?

Not if the boards are of acceptable quality. We use the floating method most of the time without any problems.
