I have been asked to replace a toilet in a friends house, went to see the job today and the toilet is bedded on a cement base. Now i think the only option is to smash the toilet out, but i was thinking should i rebed it on a cement base or what i want to do is remove the cement base, screw it to the floor and seal it. Is there a better option for me because removing the base i would imagine could take a while. Any opinion advice greatly appreciated.

setting the base in concete used to be popular, but is not now recomended. As the mortar sets it contracts, which can set up stresses and crack the pan.

We now have plastic plugs which give a secure fixing in a concrete floor.

what you want to do sounds good to me.
check first that the base is not there to get the hight to line up with the soil pipe.
or is it just for securing to floor.
