Hi,

I have a Neff V5360XO washing machine.

The other day it was being used as normal,
when it made a loud bang almost at the end of a program (2m left).

The machine completed the program but the the drum was no longer spinning.

I followed various advise online, and when I removed the back of the machine,
I could clearly see that the belt had slipped from its correct position.

However, I also noticed on the floor (inside the machine) to the left and right fairly large pieces of some kind of black rubbery/plastic material.
(Pardon the poor technical language but I am a layman at such matters).

So clearly it is not just the belt that was the issue.
(Infact the condition of the belt seems excellent, but the other item has clearly exploded!!)

I'm hoping someone can tell from the image attached what is the other item that needs replacing,
I have circled the broken parts in red (2 places on the image).

Any opinions would be most welcome.

Many thanks,
Joe.

The picture is hardly useful, it's too far and the pieces can't be seen easily.

But from your description it sounds like the dryer fan connection to the drum broke, which caused the drum to stall and the belt to jump off. Is the dryer module mounted over the drum?

Try to see if those broken parts have any number or words and try to find where they came from.

I have no idea how that model is and I can't find anything that helps me anywhere, I am from europe, but it kinda looks like a part of this

Although that's a fan for a stove, not a washing machine.

Again, this is just from what I can understand about what appears to be a UK model, the best approach is for you to discover more about the parts and where they were in the first place.

Also something caused them to break, it wouldn't be a good idea to replace the part before finding what caused it to break the first time.

Thanks for the reply.

It is a UK model, but I am pretty sure it is not what you think it is.

I had been told these have had nothing to do with the belt coming off,
and are parts used to help with the vibration of the machine, which routinely dry and therefore fall off.

I was advised to refit the belt if it was in good condition, which it is.

Ok, so I tried to put the belt back on, and then I noticed that the pulley on the back of the drum is rock solid!

I then tried to spin the drum from the front of the machine,
opening the machine door, and again the drum was rock solid,
could not budge it an inch...

so clearly there is an issue here - though I have no clue what it means!

Also - I have supplied another image - I noticed this pipe is not connected to anything (circled in red),
which instinctively does not seem right to me.

Any opinions would be most welcome.

I knew it couldn't be the part I said because it was a oven fan, it was just an example of something that might look like your dryer fan. But if its some sort of anti-vibration insulation that eventually falls then that's one case closed, although it doesn't sound too good.

That pipe really looks like a condenser hose

Its use? Probably to avoid condensation in the machine and the surrounding area. Either way I really doubt it is suppose to be like that, usually this kind of system sucks the humidity and sends it down the drain, since the tube is completely open on the bottom of the machine I will say that it is not suppose to be like that.

I'm afraid that you will have to open the front panel and see where the tube needs to be connected and with some luck that is the cause of your stuck drum.

Be carefull, if you need to disconnect any wires remember where they are connected so you don't mess up, take some pictures of the wiring so you won't have any problems. Also the diaphragm might be tricky to remove and reinstall, if you find any trouble then give it a quick search on youtube for instructions, you will find plenty.

Another option is to try and do this from above, might be simpler because you probably will just have to remove the top panel but I doubt you will have much room to move with the detergent drawer in the way.

Either way, you have to find out where that tube was originally connected and what is causing the drum to be stuck. Keep us posted if you have any problems, more pictures will also help too.

There are obviously several problems with your machine which unfortunately it would appear you do not have the ability to rectify yourself. It seems like it is time to call an engineer out. I am not sure how Neff work but Hotpoint have an all inclusive fee of around £100. It could be something as simple as a bra wire jammed between the inner & outer drums or more likely a seized bearing that is causing the major problem of the drum not turning.
