AEG Steam function kaputt

Had a new kitchen installed 12 months ago along with 5 AEG appliances.
Never used the steam function on the oven, but when we did after approx 10 months it wouldn't work. Kept indicating that the water reservoir was empty. AEG engineer came out and told us it needs a new water tank and thermostat
We thought about it then questioned the fact that it must have been at fault from day one
AEG are not interested and told us the Onus lies with the company we bought the kitchen from (Shameful after sales, AEG)
Should they repair or replace, what's your thoughts?
