Hi, I have a camera in my stables for me to be able to watch my pig give birth without interrupting her. The signal is not very good therefore the picture is quite poor on the telly. The camera is about 50 ft from the house. Any suggestions? Do I need a signal booster? if so what sort, where do I get it from and where do I put it?

Hi 4Jacks,

She's probably given birth by now, sorry we missed your post.

The general quoted distance by most manufacturers for a wireless is one hundred metres in free space, i.e. nothing between the camera and monitor. In your case, fifty feet is hardly anything therefore. Is the pig in a metal pen or shed, since the metal can reduce the signal quality. If this is the case and the camera has a sort of hanging wire aerial transmitter, you could try simply drilling a hole in the metal and pushing this to the outside of the pen or shed. If there are other buildings between the shed and your monitor, they too shall have an effect on the signal. This may be awkward for you but it's worth a try:- If the receiver is a standalone device Attempt to get the receiver as near as possible to the camera by mounting it near a facing window, rather than have the signal trying to get through the thick walls of the main building.

Take Care.
