African American

To be fair, most of the people I like have been dead for years. Probably makes them not eligible. Currently listening to Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup who died 40 years ago

My biggest gripe is using the term 'Rn B' for what isn't really RnB!

( Muddy Waters v Usher ?...)

But. I'm not sure where the idea came from that 'Black' is an offensive term.

It seems that some people assume it is offensive because they have other issues. And I'm not referring to black people.

Can we get some feedback from the people who think the mobo's are racist? Quite typical of DM readers and kippers

I used to work with a bloke from Trinidad who was always bemused as to why anyone who was black could be offended by being described as black - he suggested that it was unlikely that a white person was unlikely to be offended by being called white.

Can't beat the sound of Glen Miller's orchestra!

Because it is used as an insult
A group is seen by a proportion of society as inferior/bad so the name of that group gets used as an insult. So the group themselves and/o those who don't want to be seen as insulting the group come up with a new name for the group. Of course it's not long before the new name starts being used in an insulting way too and the cycle repeats.

Just introducing more new names won't help, the only way to break the cycle is for society to change so that being a member of the group in question is no longer seen as a bad thing (and this may require changes in both the group in question and the rest of society).

I get the impression that in parts of america there is a big problem with an anti-intellectual black subculture.

As has already been explained, the term MOBO is not in itself racist. What is racist is the fact that 'Music of Black Origin' is perfectly acceptable whereas if anyone dared to use the term 'Music of White Origin', they'd find themselves up in court on the charge of inciting racial hatred.

I want to know why its ok to have a Scottish nationalist party but not a British nationalist party, not that i belong to either just seems unbalanced to me.
