Aid to India

Several thousand people die a year due to cold related deaths in the UK.

Maybe if we give more money to India, then we can use that warm fuzzy feeling to heat their homes?

Doesn't the Government provide for the unemployed / disabled / pensioners?

What's that got to do with it????

Charity is to be given to the needy. Isn't the UK population looked after?

Nonsense.
Pensioners are freezing to death in their homes for fear of not being able to afford the heating costs, and yet you seem to advocate the millions of pounds given away to India.

Madness.

Do you really believe, the Government is just "giving" the aid money away? Nothing is for free in this world. There is always an angle. Aid = political influence.

There is always an angle. Aid = political influence.

So feel free to 'elaborate' on this 'influence', as the French don't give any aid, yet win huge deals on warplanes.... please tell us what the aid buys for us...

I think the government give the aid out of some sort of twisted sense of guilt over the Raj and stuff that happened a couple of hundred years ago.
I honestly think we've repaid our debt to these countries and now owe them nothing. Still, I'm sure Camerlegg / Leggeron, will be upstanding in the H of C next week apologising for some outrage that happened to some foreign country/ race,,,, 3 centuries ago.

Save our money and give it to the needy - yes, that's us, the indigionous population of the UK. Ffs people, let's think of us first.

I'm on the sick and my money goes up in april, my brother has been took of the sick, same symptons, go figure.

So you're dropping this particular statement then?
Charity is to be given to the needy.
Now it's political influence.?????

I was making two points. Both are valid individually. But yes they contradict each other if combined.

1) When I said charity is to be given to the needy, the comment was about UK population which is relatively looked after well. There are a lot of safety nets for the needy. Sure there is always room for improvement but no one is truly poor.

2) “Aid / Political influence”; Aid should not be regarded as charity. Here are a few examples; UK and USA are giving “Aid” to Pakistan. None or most of this money will never reach the needy. It is being giving to keep the corrupt politicians in their pockets. There is also a lot of corruption in India.

UK paid to bailout Ireland but not Greece. Could that have anything to do with British exports to Ireland? Do you see the political angle?

Pushing it bit, aint you.

Come out from under your rock.

I said cold related deaths, not deaths directly attributed to cold, and it is several thousand a year, who knows how many of those thousands would not die if they had proper heating.

NHS said:
Every winter in the UK, 25,000-30,000 deaths are linked to the cold weather. Currently, approximately four million households in the UK are in fuel poverty. This is when a household spends more than 10% of its income to keep warm.

The Government already give Cold Weather Payments. I'm not against giving more to the truly needy, so yeah pensioners who need help should be helped more. But numbers could be messaged to prove whatever we like. Let’s leave pensioners aside.

Let’s take a family of 4, 2 Adults and 2 children. Would they end up on the street if they loose their jobs? The state will provide for them.

My point is, there is only so much the state can do for its people. We have to stand on our own two feet beyond this point. We have free education for under 19’s and provision for loans for anyone wanting to educate themselves further. Students also get EMA to support them through their education. There are also many grants and bursaries for university students.
So there are enough opportunities for us to make a better life for ourselves and the state is providing the infrastructure.

So, and what is your point?

I give a direct body of evidence showing people are lacking funding for heat, your response "those numbers could be massaged and lets just ignore them for my argument".

Oh wowzers.

You then list lot's of other things we provide, ignoring that we have a 10% deficit to fund them, and that's not even touching on the subject of how toxic welfare can be.
