Hi guys just a quick question.....

The transformer for my Aiphone intercom is fried and i can not source a replacement , can i just use an off the shelf 24 v transformer instead , on the Aiphone trany it as got 240 v in and 24 volt out ( 4 wires ) i have looked at some 24 v transformers but they seem very small compared to my one which is about the same size and weight as a bag of sugar....
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Googling for Aiphone psu found this

I suspect the fried unit was a 24 volt DC supply so a simple transformer will not be suitable as it will be AC.

I also suspect the friend unit was a linear PSU and not a switched mode unit. Switched mode units have high frequency ripple on the output, not a problem for most electronic equipment but powere supply ripple can cause patterning effects on video where power and signal cable run next to each other.
