Hello Everybody.

Last night my central heating packed in. The problem was that the boiler was filthy and there was a partial short across the electrodes.

I cleaned out the boiler. To my surprise the residue was totally pure soot.
On previous occassions, the residue was a combination of various types of ash.

Last year when I cleaned out the boiler, I replaced the nozzle in the in the burner. It was an emergency situation and the parts provider had not the correct size nozzle - He provided me with a nozzle, which may have been slightly bigger or smaller, which I fitted.

Could this be the cause of the production of so much soot?

Could anyone advise me on how I should adjust the air intake?

Many thanks,

Jimmy

Yes a different nozzle will need different oil pressure and air settings.
Get a replacement nozzle that is the same as the old one.
Otherwise you need a flue gas analyzer to set it up correctly.
