Hi, I take it that this is the offending stop-cock?

Have lived here 10 years & no-one has ever been able to spot it - they all head for the water-meter point at the roadside, to switch the mains off from there. The cock on that was faulty as well, last time the plumbers couldn't turn the water back on from it - took them ages. They said I should contact the water board, who came round today, & more or less tightened it all up, with new screws. Looks like a bodge-job to me, how long will that last?

The water board man also said, by the meter, there was a slight leak in the property. There is no water leakage anywhere that I can see. Under the sink - despite condensation at times - is dry as a bone. Great. Report a leak, get a plumber in, where's the leak? Don't know

Anyway, hopefully the indoor stop-cock has been identified.

Looks like the stopcock to me. It's probably bounded and may be able to be worked loose.

Thanks. Might as well leave it til the next call-out, then. Considered getting a plumber round to give it the once-over, but then there's the call-out fee, & so forth. Waste of money if the tap is OK, or that they identify it - & have to fix it - next time round?

Just call a plumber and say you want a stopcock replaced with a lever valve - better in the long run.

Water supplier only responsible for upstream of meter outlet.

Outlet side downstream is bill payer's responsibility.

He would have seen meter spinning and with no usage in the property, this indicates a leak... Could just be a toilet letting by into the pan... Check back of bowl in all wcs with some blue roll... Goes dark if cistern is letting by.

So your syphon/flush valve is likely passing from somewhere.

I need to report it. But I also need to ask for a new stop-cock. Whether the old is turn-able, or not, it is over 50 years old, & controls the water, so needs to be overhauled ~ which means it needs replacing.

I take that that the plumbers were probably mistaken about the water softener? It is still swashing its way through bags of salt - it seems to be working normally.

You need to stop the meter spinning by dealing with all the leaks you know exist (ie toilet cisterns etc) then you need supplier to sort any issue with including ability to isolate from there, then you need to deal with your internal stopcock and make sure it can be operated!

External stopcock is there to turn off water when a leak is evedient but no access to property,

Internal stopcock is there to turn off water when outside stopcock is covered in snow and/or frozen!

Chat is the only way to describe any issue in detail. I need two claims, one for the cistern, & one for the stop-cock.
