Yep, I'm definitely getting smoke alarms upstairs and downstairs. I'm just going to get battery ones, rather than having them wired in.
Whilst we're on the matter, can anyone tell me anything about CO2 alarms? Our gas boiler is in the garage, so I imagine I won't need one there. But we also have a gas fire in the living room.
Do I put an alarm in the living room? Near where we sleep? Close to the appliance or not? High up or down low? So many variables!
If your getting battery ones get the 10 year lithium ones as you won't forget to replace the batteries and you can't remove them ! Still think you need to visit your local fire station as they normally give them out free.
