Hi,

I have an Alpha CB28X that has developed a leak from the bottom of the diverter valve assembly. The boiler works fine except for this. The leak is constantly there, but has gotten worse recently (steady drip).
It drips faster when a hot water tap is turned on.
Looking at the corrosion around the area it looks like its been there for some time. The water eminates from what looks like a recess for a grub screw.
Pic attached, this is taken from the underside of the valve assy. Hole in the middle of the pic is the culprit.

I am tempted to just block this hole up with a bung...my worry is that it is a breather hole of some sort, and its there for a good reason. I did consider taking the assy out and replacing seals but it looks a sod to get to the fittings.

Anybody know what the recess is? Thanks

Its mains pressure and you cannot stop it!

Its new diverter valve time.

They are a bit expensive so it might be well to consider if its time for a new boiler.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply. The boiler works fine so far. Its only about 3 years old. A 5mm LED wrapped in PTFE seems to fit perfectly...It seems to do the trick on the short tests that I have done. Don't want to cause any more serious problems though...

that hole is there so that if there is a water leak the water has somewhere to go rather than work its way into the other side (central heating) of the boiler. It shouldn't be plugged :!:

Should be able to get the small o rings that have perished quite easily although you need a special tool to get them out. A diverter valve repair kit for a 24Cdi should have the correct o rings unless you want to fork out £170 for a new valve  which would be easier and quicker.

The job is mamoth for a diy person if it's only weaping live with it, if you can't live with it get an expert to fit seal kit 3.013391 or fit new diverter valve 3.012752

I'd get a new div valve. Its usually about a 50/50 chance of being able to get the old o ring out (plus you need a special tool).

Thanks to all for your good advice.

Sounds like there is a good reason for the hole to be there... I think I will live with the weeping for the time being and get a plumber if it gets any worse or causes any other problems.

Cheers, Ash
