We've moved into a house with a large (25m2) lovely wool carpet but a patch has been really badly worn (cat scratches maybe). The part that needs to be replaced is near French windows so in a sort of alcove part & about 60 x 90cm needs replacing. We're not sure where we'll arrange furniture so can't easily identify a spot of existing carpet to take out & patch it with. But we can't afford to replace the whole thing.
We have access to quite a lot of recycled carpet taken out of another building & our options could include replacing with a different colour though that would look strange. We did wonder if we could replace it with coir matting given that it's in a doorway effectively - this could also look a bit strange but about half would be covered by curtains. Or we could get a big long rug & put it down with carpet grippers so it doesn't move!
Any other real money saving options? I have no idea where the carpet originally came from so don't think we stand much change of finding a match.
