Is there an alternative to using cement to sit a shower tray tray on? Can anyone explain why cement is always stipulated on the fitting instructions please. Surely wouldnt a 15mm bed just crumble in time? Thanks in advance

It depends on what your floor substrate is...if its concrete, a screed of cement is best, but if you're on fairly level timber, a good layer of silicone acts as a cushion and fills surface irregularities.
John :)

I've just fitted a Mira tray (ABS capped resin stone) 1200 x 700mm on to T&G flooring. Cost a bloomin' fortune :P
The instructions were to bed it down onto a layer of silicone, on the webs underneath, which I've done.
So, its dead flat, and no creaks.
Every silver lining has a cloud  Boss wife reckons the anti - slip ribs on the tray hurt her feet  Can't win :P
John :D

If the manufacture stipulates cement and or sand then there is no alterntive.

Anything different and something breaks/goes wrong they don't (quite rightly imo) want to know.

white or brown bread? Thanks for all the replies. I reckon it will have to be cement -just in case.
