Am I allowed to replace this junction box?

I'm changing my kitchen and noticed this junction box screwed to a joist under the floorboards. I know they are meant to be accessible and this isn't. I am just asking if I am strictly allowed due to laws etc. as I don't know so thought I'd ask. I would replace with WAGOBOX and connectors.

Yes it's fine as long as you use maintenance free connections and box (i.e. wagos) and they have a suitable current rating.

Most wago connectors are rated to 24 Amps, so if the T&E wires in your photo are 2.5mm or less, then is perfectly safe and fine to do. Just use to proper wago box to house the wago connectors.

Yes, it's awful work, but there's not really anything wrong with box. There are millions of those out there.

He appears to want to replace it with an MF one, whilst he has access to it, presumably to bring it into line with current regs (even thought that is not 'required'). Given that it needs attention, anyway, the OP might just as well do that.

On a similar note some other bits of wiring are poorly routed and look in poor condition. Is it acceptable for me to replace like for like but pin more suitably, or is that then in the realms of requiring a qualified electrician because of the rules about routing between wall studs etc? See the rats nest:

I've got to replace that back bit of wall (plasterboard) so thought I'd tidy up the pipes / waste / wires / etc. The wall is going to be re-boarded and plastered (tiles etc all coming off first) so just wanted to make it neat as I have to get rid of the holes in the wall!
