A electric lead runs from the gas fired boiler (worcester 24i) and splits up into various connections behind a plastic face plate. Another lead runs from this and plugs into the socket right next to it. Some time ago the face plate that houses the connections, was accidentally cracked. I've deliberated about whether to call an electrician to put on a new face plate, or whether to do it myself.....
I don't think that any of the connections were affected and the boiler contiued to work as usual for a month or so after. But recently the boiler started whining again (as in years past), and eventually broke down. The Mains indicator light still comes on when the lead is plugged in. But it apears that the gas just doesn't ignite. I'm assuming that the whining noise and the boiler breaking down is unrelated to the faceplate being cracked, but I'd like to elicit some informed opinion on the matter before proceeding with repair. Any feedback would be appreciated....
