I have been requested to upgrade a distribution board in a London building as someone tried to have a new meter installed and the EDF electrician said the old MEM board has aspestos between the bus bars and missing barriers etc.
A few years back now I measured all the missing barriers on one of these boards and made them up in plywood. This satisfied the board at the time but What with the amendment 3 stuff and fire regs BS 7671, I wondered how to interprete this. It is still all enclosed in a metal enclosure and it’s not in a delling but in an intake room. Anyone got any thoughts on this? All their office we say is that it should meet the regulations!!

Plywood in a fusebox ?, if anything you would use Paxolin or similar flame retardant insulator.

Those boards now really need specialist removal and disposal, the building should by law have an Asbestos register and detailed in that how to deal with it.

Upgrading to a similar DB with HRC fuses, may be one option, but not really relevant to a DIY forum

If not in a "domestic (household) premises" then Amendment 3 is irrelevant.

Note it does not say "dwelling" for this regulation. Not sure what the difference is.

But I fear that modifying a distribution board by introducing flammable components falls foul of other regulations....

Yeah, I’m waiting for an email from Power networks uk about a glastic or Paxolin replacement, but thanks lads.
