American frifge freezer - what to look out for

looking for a side-by-side American type fridge freezer and know nothing about them. was looking for filtered water and ice making - are they easy to live with, any brand better than another ? Bloke in one shop shop did recommend Mexican built Maytag, although over £2000 said they are built for the American market and have a good 20yrs life in them.
