Hello
does anyone know what is sufficient overhang required for a 5m RSJ lintel
many thanks

Huh?! Overhang what?
What loading?

But chances are a 5m beam can cantilever 1.75m or so before you start running into problems.. but would be pretty spongy so may need to up size to stop it deflecting..

Not sure but think the op means bearing, maybe :?

If so 150mm with appropriate padstones.

apologies, i mean the length of the lintel that needs to be supported underneath by the bricks

There's no minimum as such. It depends on the load and how the beam is generally supported. If it's a masonry pier and the masonry is definitely adequate then a 100 or 150mm bearing on a padstone is normally OK. But it does depend on the loads and supporting structure?
