As per @HERTS P&D post. The vertical downpipe, should run INTO the angled corner (the fatter collar). The other end of the corner should run into the vertical pipe. Your's is the wrong way around. Flip it around and it should be fine.

Yep thank you for the heads up tried to separate the vertical pipe but seems to be glued together so suspect I need to buy a new angle piece and vertical but no idea what to buy

It may just be chocked up with debris and fine grit making it it very tight. I would say that no one glues them but on the other hand as they have fitted it upside down then I wouldn’t be surprised
