Annoying DVD drive

Hi all,

my DVD/CD-ROM drive, keeps trying to read (indicator light flashes) then partially opens (20mm or so) then closes.

I can stop this by setting a CD to play then pausing it but as soon as i log off from my screen name - back to Vista start-up page - it starts doing it again.

Any help greatly appreciated

It might also be worth checking the boot order in your bios. Its possible that it is still set to boot from the CD. If so change the boot order to the hard drive as the first boot device.

what antivirus software have you installed. It could be scanning your CD drive as well as your hard drive. Often this is done on shutdown or log off. check the advanced settings in the software.

Finally the only other time I ever saw this before was a virus which took over the cd drive. Suggest you download CCCleaner or Superantispyware or similar and see if it picks up any malware.
