another child abuse gang caught and locked up for life

Don't know if you missed it but nosy came out with a blinder the other day citing the number of lives being put in peril because they might put out a Mayday in the Gulf of Mexico saying they were in the Gulf of America.
If only we had a way of giving people our precise coordinates. I wonder if someone came up with this more than 1000 years ago?

Global navigators (planes, ships etc) will ignore the Orange Idiots narcissism and carry on as normal. Some red hat wearing morons will tow the line, as they have no clue where or what 'The Gulf of Mexico' is in any case.

If I'm communicating with someone under emergency conditions, I'm going to tell them where I am, because I want them to find me and my colleagues and save our lives. I won't pi$$ about and pander to an Orange Morons' ego.

Where did I '...cite the number of lives in peril...' or ANY lives in peril for that matter? Mayday? WTF did you dream that one up. Ah, I'm guessing you had another skin-full, looking at the hour.

Serious question - can someone adrift on an inflatable, armed with a regular mobile phone, give exact (longitudinal/latitudinal) coordinates these days? It wouldn't surprise me, given the tech.

Yes of course, most have a GPS. Assuming their phone is in range and waterproof. Failing that you can see what cell tower its connected to. The UK coastguard can tell where a hand held VHF is fairly accurately just using its signal strengths from each aerial.

You still don't understand that these offences are irrelevant to the valid claim I made.
What offences did you think you meant when you said this...

It is not white British males committing the majority of rape abuse against kids, via rape gangs.

And how do British male rape abuse gangs against kids differ from ..er.. British male rape abuse gangs against kids?

A number of high-profile cases - including the offending in Rotherham investigated by Professor Alexis Jay,3 the Rochdale group convicted as a result of Operation Span, and convictions in Telford – have mainly involved men of Pakistani ethnicity. Beyond specific high-profile cases, the academic literature highlights significant limitations to what can be said about links between ethnicity and this form of offending. Research has found that group-based CSE offenders are most commonly White.

Research on offender ethnicity is limited, and tends to rely on poor quality data. It is therefore difficult to draw conclusions about differences in ethnicity of offenders, but it is likely that no one community or culture is uniquely predisposed to offending. • A number of studies have indicated an over-representation of Asian and Black offenders in group-based CSE. Most of the same studies show that the majority of offenders are White.

Most grooming gang offences carried out by white men, police chiefs say

or this....

The vast majority of grooming gang offences are carried out by white men, the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has said.

or this....

New figures from the police database show that, where ethnicity data was available, 85% of “group-based” child abusers were white in the first three quarters of 2024.

Offences where grooming gangs are involved are predominantly white. There is not a significant issue here with any particular ethnicity or setting
Richard Fewkes, NPCC
The same data for the whole of 2023 showed 83% of offenders were white.

Please elaborate?

Yeah I get that. But would Bob at the US coastguard call centre have the info' on his screen, just from speaking to me on my phone?

My understanding, not likely wrt GPS.

But you could read it off, and tell Bob what your phone tells you.

The golf of Mexico is roughly 1000nm x 600nm. The chance of you being in range is limited. But your phone GPS will give lat/long.

If you have a handheld VHF on your lilo even at full power your max range is going to be 8 miles or less due to the height of your aerial.

If your VHF has a Digital selective calling (DSC). You can just press and hold the button and it sends all this in a text. Range about 10miles max

Boats have devices known as EPIRBs which use satellite based comms these can also be fitted to life jackets and work anywhere in the world.

So is the Gulf of America. ;)

I mentioned on another thread about the number of different names applied to the South China Sea and the French scoundrels calling the English Channel La Manche.
Another one that cropped up is the Persian Gulf just below Iran, the Saudis, not being huge fans of the Persians call it the Gulf of Arabia.

They're all at it.
