Another Damp/Mould question

Two issues(I think) I have.

First one is the damp/mould in top corner of internal wall. We have CWI & rendered walls. Where we live we do get lots of wind driven rain against the house. What's the best way of finding out if that is the case or would it be better to get a professional in?

The other one is the dark spots above a window. The original window (sealed) was replaced by us last year & we have it open on the jar all the time. The dark patches were there before window replacement but have got worse this year. Doesn't feel damp to touch.

We do dry washing in the house in the small b/room. We have gas ch, bathroom extractor fan & a cooker hood.

Cheers for any replies

Run a dehumidifier in room when you dry washing.
We also use a summer fan to move air around and takes about 4 hours to dry washing along with the dehumidifier.
Looks like you have high humidity so you need to get a dehumidifier and run every evening for 4 hour.
Opening windows and running extractor fans helps but won't cure your problem. Your property is saturated with moisture...

Cheers Wayners.

Looking at the photos i put up, are you convinced it's internal issues & not external.

Very informative video. I never knew opening windows before putting the heating would help with condensation. The wife's Christmas present sorted out now then, hope she likes a dehumidifier lol.

Why run the dehumidifier in the evening & not during the day? Once again, many thanks

In the evening, you are exhaling moist air as you sleep and the outdoor temperatures are lower.

You could aim a fan at the damp areas. Air bounces around corners, forcing air at them might help as a short term fix.

Which is a really bad idea. The moisture evaporated from the clothes, goes into the internal atmosphere of the entire house, then condenses out where ever it can find colder spots in the house - which is shown in your photos.

bathroom extractor fan & a cooker hood.

Do you always, without fail, turn those on? It's important that you do, or that they come on automatically.

We do run in the day sometimes.
Depends on humidity.

Yes. I think its high humidity in your house and not external.

I empty tanks every other day. You wonder where all the water comes from.

Had a quick look at dehumidifier & like everything else there seems to be hundreds to choose from. What things should i be looking for in one?

Don't be tempted by the cheap ones, which claim to remove moisture using a chemical satchet. What you need is, one which uses a little motor, and compressor, like a fridge, plus a fan. Many just have a container to collect the water, which then have to empty regularly, or the stop when full - some have an option to install a small drain pipe, avoiding the need to empty. Worth having that option, if you can add a drain.
