Another issue with screw and plug combo

Hi

Putting up simple curtain pole in bedroom, and using screws and plugs that came with pole. Drilled hole, inserted plug.. then screw doesn’t want to screw into plug Almost like plug is too small for screw. That can’t be right, can it?

Never have any luck with screws snd plugs...

Give it a light tap with a hammer to get it to bite.

Thanks. Replaced with two of my own plugs and was fine. Just never come across that scenario.
