Another pull switch question

My cloakroom pull switch failed recently, so I bought another (2 way 6 amp) and wired that in.

It works fine, except ... it only lights on the fourth pull, not the first. The previous switch worked fine and I cannot see any difference in them.

I wired red to COM, and black to L1.

Any ideas why, how I can correct it?

The new switch is defective.

I would think it faulty.

Switches have a rotary motion in which the contractor rotates a quarter (90°) with each pull.
It would seem yours is not contacting when one way round.

You could try moving the wire from L1 to L2; it may work but will still be faulty.
