Presented today with a fault on lighting.

Kitchen has two sets of lights: a GU10 spot fitting and several UC fittings.

The switch that usually operates the spot fitting now operates the UC lts, as does the UC light switch. Also, the switch for the adjoining room operates the UC lights as well.

Those switches (apart from the UC switch itself) no longer operate the fittings they are wired to switch.

All other lighting no longer works, apart from a study light fitting (also GU10) which illuminates on switching its own switch, albeit with the faintest of glows.

Any ideas?

Can we have a clue? Was it loop at the fitting, loop at the switch, singles or joint box?

I'm thinking O/C neutral and backfeeding type fault at the moment.

OK. put you out of your misery.

As usual, that git, I mean, nice guy RF was right on the money...

I went to the study fitting and found a disconnected neutral. Put it back in and hey presto! Lights all working as they should.

Neutrals don't half cause some odd symptoms!
