Hello. :D

I've installed 50W mains dimmable spotlights in my kitchen. The paperwork that came with them says they should have 0.5m clear between the light and any surface, and that the void into which they're installed should be min 4 inches. Both of these are fine, but I'm concerned because one of the lights sits next to a ceiling joist and that this could be a fire hazard. I can't find any reference to this in the instructions.
Any ideas please ?
Thanks,
P.J.

It shouldn't. It should have at least six inches clear all around.

You know, that's possible.

One of the biggest problems in fitting downlighters is locating joists and other obstructions (herring-bones, noggins, pipes, etc) beforehand and then designing a layout to suit. All too often people simply start drilling holes. Too late now though, eh?

Thanks for the advice dingbat.

That should really be in the instructions, you'd think. Never mind, one hole drilled gives a nice blank to plug the other one, c'est la vie.

Cheers,

P.J.
