So basically anything you decide to put there because "it looks right" is likely to be a fabrication.
Yes, I have the same problem trying to source plumbing fittings that were around when the cottage was built.

then fine, but basically you must go for what you like, not be constrained by what you think is fitting.
I am going for what I like, and I do not like modern looking items in an old looking cottage. Some have to be modern but where possible I will use something "old" to reduce the visible modernisation of the cottage.

It's a weird thing but we seem to mentally seperate stuff into "modern" and "old-fassioned" even though the "old-fassioned" group spans a far greater time-range than the "modern".

But that's my point.

You cannot reduce the visible modernisation of the cottage except by not having any electrical installation at all. If you could pop into a time machine and go back and look at the cottage on the day it was first electrified it would have looked visibly modernised.

Sometimes the juxtaposition of old and new can work very well.

Like stainless conduit in ware house conversions. Piro also works well as a surface installation in stone property.

I'd email contractors that you know work in areas with older housing stock and ask them, nmore easy to get Bakelite items.missue being that loads are the bad type with the screw base and cover threads that can be undone by a child by twisting them.

Isnt the requirements that you MUST need a tool to access a switch?

Even Bernard's ones on a 12V circuit? I think not - and if it were the case, I'm very glad that BS7671 does not apply to my car :-)

Kind Regards, John.

Tucked away into corners and behind curtains white round conduit is almost invisible in a room with white walls, it also slides nice and snug over 15 mm copper pipe dropping from the ceiling to rads.

In the rooms with bare stone walls black conduit is not invisible but is not very noticable.

Thanks Chri5

That is the price I have been finding at most suppliers, less a bit for trade and qauntity from a couple of sources, if it comes to it than I will have to bite the bullet and pay the price.

Re-claimed switches with original mechanisms would be ideal.

How does an electronics engineer get trade discount? I had assumed you would need a trade account to this.

I imagine your assumption is correct, but I think you are probably underestimating how easy is usually is to get 'trade' accounts!

Kind Regards, John.
