To avoid damp surely you'd never let the property drop below 15 degrees....electric heating could get very expensive.
Heat pumps whatever type are completely inappropriate unless considerable insulation and draft proofing is in place...in an old draughty
house they will cost you considerably more than even simple electric heaters (the initial cost be extortionate).

Please elaborate. A typical heat pump costs about the same as gas to run.

Good luck achieving a COP of 4....
The COP figures often quoted will never be obtained unless the property has purposely been built/upgraded for a heat pump.
After the extortionate initial cost don't forget to add in the routine maintainance (dosing etc) and extortionate parts prices when the warranty is voided or expires.
Somewhere on the web you'll find the recent £multi-million trial the government ran...a complete disaster as reality set in when the public realised how disruptive and
pointless a heat pump is when installed in your typical UK home.
They are nothing but a greenwashed cash cow at the moment.
