Any ideas what this substance is? found in the loft...

Hi all,

I was re-lagging a pipe in the loft and came across this white powdery substance under some of the loft insulation (only in this small section)

Any ideas what it was?

It was very brittle, touching it caused it turn to dust... It kind of looked like polystyrene.

Someone's been destroying evidence of a murder, clearly was professor plum with the foam insulation in the loft
