Any Rail buffs here?

Network Rail, in their infinite wisdom have recently modified the iron foot bridge at the back of our house & added a bracket with a cutout section.

I'm fascinated why?

Anybody able to enlighten me?

is the line due to be electrified? Could be to ensure wire clearance.

Electrification, or maybe the bridge has subsided a little, making for less than acceptable clearance for rail traffic.

Best guess yet.

I thought it may be fabricated like that, for greater strength than a flat plate as a repair.

is it dead centre over the rails [electrification ???]
or to the side just outside the rails footprint[exhaust pipe ???]
purely guesses as electrification they normaly add a brick or concrette pad with stepps each side and under the feet to give the extra height
