Anyone owned a BMW 320td compact?

Looking to buy one of these pocket rockets for £2.5K. Any good?
Seems like a nice car for the money, it's an 02 with 113K miles.

Make sure its had regular oil changes, turbos can be a problem on these models failing at around 100k and even earlier.
Worth checking if it has swirl flaps fitted too, lots of info on these all over the internet and the mods required to stop failure.

Unless it has a very good history I wouldn't bother with any BMW diesel over 100k.

Oh Dear, I've already put a deposit on one.
Seems to have had plenty of oil changes and I've read about the swirl flaps and rear suspension.
Anything has got to better than a 17 year old Mazda Bongo though...

I'd look for an equivalent petrol model if your not doing big mileages

Diesels respond much better to remapping and the torque is great!

I had a 320d of a similar age and the turbo went at just under 100k, cost me over £1200 to sort and it could have been much worse.

From experience I now wouldn't have a BMW of a similar age with a TD engine, very common fault if you google it.

True, remapping a car can have very good gains but puts a lot more strain on the clutch and turbo so good health is a must.

It's had regular oil changes and I'll make sure that the swirl flaps are gone.
