My 'kinnell' was aimed Odds apparent support for the rise in Islamic extremism.
Not seeing that, sorry. He’s basically saying they are as bad as each other. He has a point.

I've never heard of Betteridge, so was unfamiliar with his Law of headlines. A quick look on his LinkedIn profile, suggests he might have been better employed coming up with.. well.. better employment.
A better question is:
- did they exist and do they still exist?
If that was the headline - I think it breaks Betteridge's law.
If you believe there is only one universe that has only ever existed from the Super hot and dense big bang until now, then you kinda have to go with the idea of intelligent design. The probability that all this was hanging about before time and that the Big Bang went "just right", creating the goldilocks of universes, then the probability that it was created its probably higher than the probability that it just happened.
If it just happened, I'd expect it to have happened before, happened somewhere else and happened again, with many less successful and more successful outcomes.
A better question is:

Adding deities to it doesn't simplify anything, just adds another meaningless factor to complicate all of it.

the way my brain works is through information and honest accurate content
fantasy in my mind is a word with no value as it is not accurate honest and helpful
as a 12 year old in 1966 i had a lack off enjoyment with shaun connery as it was so ridiculous no one would believe it
god as a concept is well beyond any sort off normal reasoning in my world
if others find solace in the fantasy off god i am pleased but dont blindly follow with ought question as evil profligates without perhaps 10% energy to question what you are being told ??

No, but adding Gods into it isn't helping. Which is probably universally true.

It's religion, you can always find a violent extremist wing.
There's also more subtle but wider ranging nasty stuff that comes out of Buddhism. If you're born in a lower social position than someone then it must be because you were a worse person than they were in their last lives. You deserve to be a serf and they deserve to be your lord and master. In fact it's good for you to suffer as it means you'll earn a better place next time around.
