Hi, we live in a 1980s house, and it is the first one we owned. The walls are all thin plasterboard, and the floor are chipboard.

In the upstairs rooms we have lots of cracks where the walls join the ceiling. From what I have read, I think this is because of changes in temperature causing expansion and contraction.

Anyway, we want to redecorate, so I want to check for definate that the cracks are not serious before I start. Below are some pictures. Appologies if I am worrying for nothing, but what with this being our first house I haev nothing to compare too.

Cheers!

fairly typical, fairly common and nowt to worry about.

it would be more unusual to not see shrinkage cracks like yours.

I have got quite few cracks from new plaster in most rooms since the cold weather, fill it back with Easi-fill

a flexible filler (gun applied) will be less likely to crack again, but in my experience the only permanent way is to paper over them, or fit coving.

brush and wash all the dust and loose material out before refilling.

that sort of crack is not indicative of a structural problem.
