Are there any household products I can use to cover small joints in new Plasterboard?

There is a 5 meter long, triangular 40x40mm gap above a "frame" which was bodged into the vaulted roof of my garage by the previous owned and I want to fill it..

I have off cuts of 10mm plasterboard lying around. so my plan is to cut it into strips and cover the gap.. This will mean having 5 or 6 joins which I need to cover before finishing with compound.. Considering I only need 200-300mm of tape, its a lot of effort to go out and buy a roll of paper/mesh tape to cover such tiny joints. So I wonder if there is any kind of paper products found around the house which I could cut into strips to effectively make "paper tape". I am not being stingy, but its an hour round trip to get to the nearest DIY supplier and I just wonder if I could use something else?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Do you have any surgical tape in your medicine cabinet? It's microporous, so should provide a key for plastering over.
