Having just completed an extension i want to run all necessary cables before the dob and dab plasterboard is fitted. I want to run power to the garden for sockets and lighting.

Short term I have an IP waterproof junction box which I plan to fit to my outside wall and run cable from inside into the back of it.

My questions are these:- (1 may seem daft but thougt id ask!!)

1) Do I need to run armour cable from the back of the waterproof box to the consumer unit inside or is it simply ok to run normal 2.5 twin and earth? Of course I know from the juction box throughout the garden it must all be armoured.

2) Do I need to run 2 circuits, 1 for lights and 1 for power in garden (1.5 and 2.5)

Thank in advance

What the power rating of what you plan to run?
Dont forget that electrical works in a garden is notifiable.

yep its been notified its going on. but to be honest I have no idea what I want to run yet, but I would imagine just lights and maybe a water feature, I need to get cables in now though before the plasterboard is put on the walls.

like my reply says I have no idea as yet what I will be running in the garden, but need to get cables in before plastrboard goes on. I will more than likely however just be running a set of lights (bricklights) on the garden and maybe a water feature. Id also like to have a waterproof plug socket out there to run a mower and the like.

Would i need to run a lighting circuit and a power circuit to garden? or could i just use the 2.5 circuit out.

I have a waterproof junction box mounted on my wall so my main question is the run from the CU to the waterproof box, which is all inside except where it goes through my wall into the back of the waterproof junction box, does this have to be armoured or is it ok to run just normal twin and earth to that?? i would then go from the junction box at a later date to in the garden run armour cable to the points i want it.

Many thanks

as its outside it should be a swa direct to the cu on its own ccts

as you want lights and a socket (or two, one for the water feature) you will need to run 2 cables

one for the lighting cct and one for the sockets, since they will need to be of differnt sizes and fused differntly
