I really wasn't sure which section to post this so excuse me and apologies to the mods if it needs moving into a another section.

I noticed the artex peeling off the lounge ceiling over the winter in different locations but all on the same side of the house. I've taken these pictures. In the 1st picture it looks like it bubbling off. I did think lack of cross ventilation in the soffits.

Looks like damp from above, eg leak or condensation in loft.

Go up and look for water stains

Thanks all for your replies. I'll try and get in there but I do think it's caused by lack of air flow in the loft. One part of the house has vents in the soffits and the other hasn't. I'll get onto it and come back here to update.

Just in case you were not aware, and to be safe, you need to know that Artex and other textured coating on ceilings may contain asbestos see here for more info on artex and asbestos which is especially relevant given the condition of that ceiling, with bits breaking and cracking.

Until you have had it tested as having asbestos or not, it's a good idea to assume it does and be very cautious.
