We have been told that we have this asbestos rope in an old boiler (Glow Worm) in house we are buying and it will cause an issue when removing to install new boiler
Is this more straightforward than appears?
Would a competent installer be able to deal with this removal along with the old boiler removal generally? Or do we need another specialist firm?
Thanks

All it needs is handled with care and sprayed with water to stop fibres .
Majority of times it will not even be disturbed.
Not a problem to any installer

Thanks for the good news. That would be a big relief.
I hope that there may not be other issues if we move the boiler to new location as we need to. Just seal off the flue/chimney that may have cement asbestos within?

Yep, taking care not to nock the asbestos cement, you don't want any of the dust in the air.

But as namsag said, and competent installer will know the correct procedures.

This is a big relief, esp to the wife who has nightmares about such things.

Just to add, is it possible or likely that there is a lot more asbestos in this old Glow Worm, apart from rope? I do not know the model number.
And if there is, is it a major problem to get taken out i.e an expensive specialist job? Thanks again.

Old gloworms just tended to lumps of metal without any form of heat shields etc so only asbestos will rope on access panels

If it's onlt rope on access panels you could soak it in water, remove it, seal it in a plastic bag, suitably marked as asbestos, and ask the local council where to dispose of it.

Then replace all the rope with similar sized glass fibre rope available from the like of Parts Center (Wolseley like Plumb Center) Are they still called that?

Problem solved.
