I have an asbestos shed roof which is covered in moss.

I want to clean this off but can I just clarify if the asbestos is on the top surface of the roof material or is it in the middle of the sheeting?

Just want to ensure cleaning it is not hazardous.

It is throughout the material. The corrugated cement-asbestos used for roofs was made from a mixture of cement, asbestos fibres and water which was then compressed and heated to form the sheet. So if you disturb it, it is highly likely that asbestos fibres will be released into the environment. This can be reduced by damping down the cement-asbestos, however it is highly likely that there will be dry areas left beneath the moss from which fibres can become airborne. In addition any moss you remove will probably be contaminated by asbestos fibres and must therefore be considered to be a hazardous material, especially when dry, and so will need specialist removal (don't just dump it in the garden waste collection - the fines for doing so are eye-watering)

For context, here's some information for contractors, from the HSE.
Although as DIY'ers, we are not obliged to follow the guidance, it is definitely worth considering...
