i just pulled out an old johnson starley warm air system.
the flue, made of double skinned sheetmetal, was attached to the top of the unit with cement. i didnt even consider it could be hazardous. is it possible this could be asbestos ?the unit was installed around 30 years ago.

thanks

No, it will be fire cement.

The rope could be though so keep it wet and double bag it.

Unlikely to be asbestos.

The sealing tapes around the J&S heat exchanger may contain a minute amount so if you are worried don't cut the unit up.

Sounds like another highly efficient WAU is going to the scrapper.
