Hi I have a 1.7 DTI astra van and it has just started making a really loud screeming/ drouning noise when the engine starts or is reved up. It still runs ok but has lost a significant amount of power. Can anyone enlighten me please on possible causes, I know very little about vans/cars but think maybe turbo ?? Help

You may well be on the right track...check out plastic pipes (about 21/2" diameter) leading from the turbo to the intercooler and back for disconnection.
John :)

I have had same noise on a Escort turbo diesel, loose clip on pipe from intercooler, check all pipes, there may be a split in one of them.

Think I left it too late, the turbo has blown and loads of white smoke out of the exhaust and wouldnt switch off even with key out of ignition and battery disconected. Thanks for the advice but have accepted that my astra is dead RIP.

Wouldn`t Stop  - The last time I witnessed that was a 1965 BMC diesel . I thought things had progressed since then . Anyone know why a diesel will run with the fuel cut off
