Hi,

First time poster so please go easy on me!

Is it possible to attach new lap panels to the existing posts to cover the old panels - ie screwing new panels to the face of each post.

This is instead of replacing the old fencing as the neighbours don't want to replace it and neither of us know who owns it! The fencing is attached to our wall but if that makes the fencing ours who knows.

Many thanks.

As far as I can see the wooden posts are sunk into the ground, probably set in concrete, so they will in time rot and snap off shortly above ground level.

The panels fit between the posts, so they are too short to screw to the faces of the posts.

But a fairly easy way, is to screw rails to the posts, one level with the top of the panel, and one with the bottom, and you can screw your new panels to that. I use decking boards, which are treated for weather resistance, strong, and quite cheap. Get the longest ones you can, to reduce need for joints. If you can span at least two posts, it will brace them against wind movement and help them stay upright.

You can also do it by screwing battens to the sides of the posts, but I prefer my method.
