I am installing a wooden surround and a marfil back panel and hearth.

Because of the depth of the electric fire I will need to use the full rebate allowed with the fire surround.

Can someone advise on how to install the back panel, as it will not be flush against the wall - but will need to sit a couple of inches from the back wall?

What 'packing' is recommended? Are there any regs I need to be aware of for its installation - it's an electric fire (not a gas or solid fuel fire).

Many thanks in advance.

The builder that did mine used tile cement and dotted and dabbed all over the back of the back panel and pushed into place, it stood in place for 10 years and was fine until i took it out last year.

Thanks for sharing this.

It sounds a good fix. The company that supplied the back panel have also now advised me that I could try polystyrene to pack behind the panel too.
